The EMG-SV Single Coil Pickup has "plucky" percussive attack, but a much smoother, less scratchy distortion sound and more output. It's truly a marriage of vintage magnetic design and state of the art electronics. The SV is the first EMG to feature a totally new preamp that breaks the noise barrier beyond -100dbV. The pickup is so quiet it's impossible to tell the guitar is even plugged in at high gain levels. It's also the first guitar pickup to use the Quik-Connect system that allows you to swap pickups easily. If you're looking for an active pickup that departs from the usual stop, but takes a different route, the EMG-SV guitar pickup is a perfect choice.
In 1993, EMG went through a renaissance of its own when the "Retro" trend was taking place in the guitar industry. It was time to visit EMG's own "Vintage Vault." After all, they'd been in business for 17 years. Why not stretch out? The last thing players would expect from EMG is a "Vintage" Pickup. They decided to develop the EMG SV and give it the same original string interface: staggered Alnico 5 pole pieces. But that's where the similarities end. They tone modeled the EMG SV after the 1959 Strat with that familiar peaky response at around 3000 Hz.
