This workshop will explain the fundamental mechanical operation of the guitar. This includes all types of guitars (acoustic and electric) and bass guitars. From here the student will gain the knowledge and techniques necessary to put any guitar into balance for optimal playability and tonality.
Each class is divided into part lecture, part demonstration, and part hands-on workshop. We encourage students to bring their own instruments to class where they can be worked on and used for class demonstration. This workshop will teach students how to design and build their own guitar circuits, read schematics and layout diagrams, and select components. It will cover electric guitar pickup installation, transducer installations for acoustic guitars, and more. See below for a class synopsis.
The instructor lectures on symbols, schematics, layout diagrams, different electronic components, and electronic construction techniques. Following the lecture, students build their own true bypass/feedback loop pedal. The pedal is housed in a quality metal box and all parts are provided. This project includes layout, metalwork, hardware installation, soldering, and wiring. This project is a good introduction to the basic techniques used in electronic construction. This workshop will be a comprehensive presentation and demonstration of the techniques required to execute a professional quality re-fret on a guitar, bass, or other fretted instrument. This course will be divided into part lecture, part demonstration, and part hands-on training. Over the duration of the five classes, students will watch a complete re-fret and then execute the process on an instrument of their choice under the assistance of the instructor.

In this workshop students design and build their own electric guitar completely from scratch using raw materials and the time-tested techniques of the instructor. Students will learn how to shape their guitar's neck and body, install the truss rod, install all hardware and finish the instrument with a polyester finish. Bodies and some necks will be cut using an industry CNC machine.
This workshop gives students creative control over the guitar's finish, and performing quality. Whatever color or type of finish the student selects will be executed in polyester. At the end of the class students will have a wonderful creation that fulfills their own unique vision. [ READ MORE ] |

Open to alumni students only, this clinic provides students the opportunity to continue exploring curricula already undertaken but in a more personally driven way. Students will work at their own bench on whatever projects they desire. Projects could include several small tasks or those of a larger, more complex nature. Specific tasks could include setups, fret work, electronics, among other things. Instruction and guidance will be provided along with all the necessary tools.
